Lahden konservatorio jatkaa Viipurin kaupungissa toimineen Viipurin Musiikkiopiston työtä ja perinteitä. Lahden konservatorioon, josta jäljempänä käytetään nimitystä oppilaitos, kuuluvat myös taiteen perusopetusta antava musiikkiopisto sekä musiikin varhaiskasvatusta antava musiikkileikkikoulu. Yhtiön toiminnan tarkoituksena ei ole tuottaa osakkeenomistajille taloudellista hyötyä. Yhtiö ei jaa osakkeenomistajilleen varoja osakeyhtiölain 13 luvun 1§:ssä säädetyillä tavoilla. Yhtiön mahdollinen voitto käytetään tässä pykälässä tarkoitetun toimialan edistämiseen ja kehittämiseen. Yhteisön varat tulee käyttää yleishyödylliseen tarkoitukseen toiminnan päättymisen jälkeen.
