Opplæringskontoret sin hovedvirksomhet er å være et samarbeidsorgan for lærebedrifter i trevarebransjen der rekruttering, administrasjon, kvalitetssikring og oppfølging av lærlinger i medlemsbedriftene er sentrale oppgaver. Medlemskap kan søkes av bedrifter som er godkjent lærebedrift av fylkeskommune i.h.t. Opplæringslova § 7-5 jfr. §7-6. Bedriftene tilslutter seg vedtektene og inngår en samarbeidsavtale med opplæringskontoret. I samarbeidsavtalen gir lærebedrift tilgang til at opplæringskontoret blant annet kan bistå med å håndtere opplæringsansvaret, inngå lærekontrakt på vegne av lærebedriften i.h.t opplæringslova §7-2, motta opplæringstilskudd fra fylkeskommunen i.h.t. Opplæringslova § 7-8 og fordele dette i.h.t. Vedtektene § 5. Godkjenning av medlemskap gjøres av styret. Opplæringskontoret har ikke erverv til formål for sine aksjonærer/ medlemsbedrifter.
